Man Of the Match =

Blaenau Amateurs bounced back from their unexpected first defeat of the season with this commanding Coast FA Intermediate Cup tie win at Penmaenmawr. The home side had strung a good run of results recently and were more than hopeful of making it into the quarter finals but they as the then leaders of the Clwyd League Prestatyn Town were simply swept aside by the leaders of the Gwynedd League who will now go into the New Year unbeaten on their travels, as they home matches in December.
The missing 5 players from the last match were back for Blaenau with club skipper Dafydd Reynolds missing due to an injury. The home side had two players out due to suspensions but they still a formidable side as they lined up for the start on a pitch which usually is wind swept but on Saturday there was hardly a breeze which helped to create a good game of football. From the start the visitors tried to play attacking football from their defence through the midfield and up to their strikers whilst the home side's tactics was a long high ball and hope for the best. The visitors defence controlled things so much so that Geraint Hughes back in goal for the visitors had little to do.Amateurs were playing some attractive football at times and maybe were guilty of that one pass too many when a earlier shot on goal would have been more beneficial.took 33 minutes for the Amateurs to open the scoring with Gareth Roberts neatly beating the offside trap and ran through to round Carl Roberts in the home goal. Within a minute they could have doubled their advantage when Geraint Owen went through on goal but his finalwas off target with only Roberts to beat. As the interval approached the home side had their two best chances of the half when first Peter Williams shot wide and then Stepken Roberts had Geraint Hughes diving low to his right to save. Still with just a one goal disadvantage theside felt that they were still in with a chance in this match and they nearly equalised early in the second half when defender Peter Roberts out on the left sent in a cross cum shotcame back off the bar and was cleared. It was the visitors that looked thelikely to score and just after the hour mark Terry Hughes who had a fine match in the left back position made a run down the left and he found Keiron Ellis with a defence splitting pass and it was 2-0. With7 more minutes played another fine attacking move saw Geraint Owen this time pass the ball to Ellis for 3-0 a scoreline which reflected the balance of play. The home side had a glimmer of hope when for once the Blaenau defence was caught wanting and the referee pointed to the spothe adjudged that Stephen Roberts had been fouled. Up stepped Richard Roberts to score71 minutes. Still the visitors had the best chances with John O'Donovan, Geraint Owen and Keiron Ellis all going close to add to their side's score but in the end it was a very satisfactory resultpleased the Amateurs management and fans alike. This Saturday the Amateurs entertain Llanstumdwy in a cup tie who will also be their opponents in the next stage of the Intermediate Cup that tie to be played in the New Year.
