The Amateurs had to work hard to get the point they thoroughly deserved from this Teejac Gwynedd League encounter and on balance of play they had more of the clear cut chances but in the end had to settle for a draw. When one thinks of Anglesey one imagines nice flat even grounds but this pitchRes have to play on is quite the opposite. It had a huge slope down towards one goal and add a strong wind into the equation it proved a tricky problem especially for the visitors who are used to the Wembley style pitch they have at Cae Clyd. It was the Amateurs who had the slope in their favour in the first half and time after time the ball seemed to run away from the strikers after some fine build up play. Geraint Owen drove a free kick just wide of the post and Gary Hughes put a free header over the bar. When they were on target Llangefin's keeper Kenny Jones was in fine form saving his side with a string of saves and blocks as the visitors threatened his goal. As the half wore on the home side came more into the match and they nearly took the lead when in a breakaway Ioan Hughes rounded the advancing Amateurs keeper Geraint Hughes but his goal bound shot was cleared off the line by Aled Owen. At the other end Gary Hughes went close and Kenny Jones tipped a Keiron Ellis effort over the bar before the home side took the lead just before the break in a rare attack by them. The Amateurs lost the ball in midfield from where it was fed to Ioan Hughes who made no mistake this time to give the home side a flattering interval lead. The home side must have thought that having gone ahead playing up the gradient they would be favourites to add to their scoreline after the breakthough they had most of the play they rarely threatened the visitors goal. It was the Amateurs that went nearest to scoring with a Ceri Roberts effort cleared off the goalline by a home defender. The Amateurs manager Brain Vaughan then made changes and gambled on a three man defence and they began to dominate the midfield where previously Llangefni had dictated matters with their skipper Daron Jones outstanding. For the Amateurs Cai Williams came on up front and it was he with a right wing run and cross who found Keiron Ellis at the far posthis header gave Kenny Jones no chance of saving on 75 minutes. The visitors had two strong penalty claims ignored late in the game as they went all out for the winner which wasn't to be but their performance and the manager's bold attacking moves were to be admired. The club now has two home matches at the weekend with Gwalchmai at Cae Clyd on Saturday and then another Anglesey side Beaumaris will be there on Bank Holiday Monday.
