After a previous blank Saturday, the Amateurs returned to Teejac Gwynedd League action with this tricky fixture at Llanfairfechan where in the past they have found winning hard to come by. This time the league leaders made no mistake and more importantly they kept yet another clean sheet as well. From the very starthome sidean aggressive manner and they gave numerous free kicks which slowed the match down. Some of their tackling was crude to say the least and striker Shane Jones was lucky not to see red after a nasty tackle on the Amateurs's keeper Geraint Hughes who needed lengthy treatment. All the decent football came from the visitors who atleast wereto play soccer and to their credit they did wellfrom retaliationof unpleasant tactics the home side adopted. In that first half there were 5 yellow cards for the home side and in that time they went a goal down on 22 minutes when Ceri Roberts nipped in smartly to toe poke the ball home after home keeper Marc Shepherd failed to hold a fierce Keiron Ellis shot. Blaenau had far the best chances after that and on 40 minutes the referee's patience was tested once too often and the home side's defender Carwyn Hughes was shown a second yellow for not a bad tackle this time, but for swearing at the official. At the break the referee made it plain once more that he would not tolerate foul and abusive language and in the second period we saw a great deal more football being played and early on in that half Shepherd did well to block a Gareth Roberts effort with his legs. Within minutes though Gareth Roberts made it 2-0 taking on a glorious 30 yard pass from Euron Roberts which split the home defence and Roberts did the rest. In that second half Gary Hughes, who got injured when heading a cross over the bar just before the break, come off and Geraint Owen took his place. A fine piece of ball control in the area saw Gareth Roberts create another chance for himself but this time the ball was deflected onto a post and cleared. With a man short the home side were limited to a few forays on the visitors goalhardly tested Geraint Hughes. Things went even worse for the home side when Shane Jones was sent off again for what he said. Having just come back from an 18 month ban he has already got two sendings off and numerous yellow cards to his name and he could be in for another spell on the sidelines. But back to the game where the impressive John O'Donovan went close with a shot that just cleared the bar and then Terry Hughes was inches away from increasing the lead. It was all Blaenau in the latter stages and it was no surprise when Keiron Ellis, the only Blaenau player to be cautioned, the 3rd in the last 10 minutes to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact. This Saturday they are away at UCNW Bangor kick off 2.30pm
