Match Reports 09/10 > August 09

LLANDYRNOG UTD 1 BLAENAU AMATEURS 1.

Having netted 8 goals in their mid week win over Nantlle Vale the Amateurs had a much stiffer task at Llandyrnog on Saturday at a club unbeaten so far this season their first in this League following their relegation from the Cymru Alliance League last season. Still without the injured first choice Gareth Roberts and Gareth Evans the Amateurs gave a very creditable performance and fully derserved their point. !6 year old Carwyn Jones coped well at full back and the whole team battled hard against a very physical Clwyd side. They looked as if they might have taken all three points but were denied the win by an 83rd minute equaliser from Liam Jones as for once the Amateurs defence failed to clear the danger. The game started with Blaenau playing up a notable slope and they coped well with keeper Aron Threadgill having his second outing for the club hardly having a hard save to make. Play ebbed fron one end to another with both defences having the upper hand. On the half hour mark the visitors took the lead from a route 1 routine. Threadgill punted the ball upfield and Gary Hughes flicked it onwards and Ceri Roberts was clear and he neatly placed the ball past Gary Higham in the home goal. Some of Blaenau approach play was neat and tidy perhaps tending to be over elaborate at times and so being caught in possession. Right on the stroke of half time John O'Donovan thought he had doubled his side's lead when he had the ball in the net only for the effort to be ruled out by the official for a handball by the scorer. Playing down the slope in the second half Blaenau had some chances which they didn't take and in the end it proved costly but still they did create these chances which must have pleased their manager. At the other end Threadgill made a diving save to tip a Danny Porter effort past the post and it looked as if the Quarymen were going to hang on for the win but then came that equaliser and both sides had to settle for a point.
Llanberis are the visitors to Cae Clyd on Saturday kick off 2.30pm.
Back to that Vale match just for the record the Amateurs scorers were Gareth Roberts and Ceri Roberts 2 each and Andrew Roberts, John O'Donovan, Keiron Ellis and an own goal.
