The Amateurs have incredibly played 10 of their opening 13 Teejac Gwynedd League fixtures away from Cae Clyd and are still unbeaten. Their remaining 4 away games are at Porthmadog, Holyhead Hotspur, Bethel and Rhiwlas between now and next May. It was always going to be tough at Gwalchmai as the Anglesey side had shown in the fixture at Cae Clyd before the home side won then by 2-0. In the league this season they had up to Saturday only conceeded 9 goals but they had only scored 14 in their 10 games so the Quarrymen knew it would a hard place to get a result, but they did it by a great all roundperformance. They had to make changes in defence through suspensioninjury to Neil Reynolds and Steff Parry but their replacements Andrew Roberts and Gerallt Mitchelmore fitted in well and both gave a performance that theybe pleased with. The visitors got off to the best possible start when Euron Robertsthe ball from the right to Ceri Roberts by the far post and his neat pass into the area was stroked home by Keiron Ellis on 7 minutes. Both sides were trying to play football on a pitch which broke up badly as the game wore on with the home side impressive until the crucial final third when they either came against a resolute Amateurs defence or that final pass went astray. However theycreate a couple of chances with Mark Griffiths guilty of squandering both. Indeed Geraint Hughes in the Amateurs goal didn't have a serious save to make before the visitors went 2-0 on 29 minutes and what a goal it was. It was well worth the trek to Anglesey just to see the goal that JohnHe received the ball on the left cut inside and from around 30 yards let go a right foot shot that entered the net via the underside of the bar a goal which even had the home supporters clapping and a strike that the home keeper Kenny Hughes had no chance of stopping. Play was pretty even after that with play mostly confined to the midfield area and at the interval the Amateurs were happy with their first 45 minutes of play. Right from the restart the home side piled on the pressure to try and get back into the match but the Amateurs defence withstood the early onslaught.was causing several stoppages for injuries and just before the hour Keiron Ellis had to leave the field with a foot injury. Whilst the visitors were re-arranging their side the home side scored when Craig Evans headed home a Mark Jones free kick. Now thewas really on with the home side sensing that they might still get something from the match but the visitors held firm though there were some tricky moments. To be fair the Amateurs too were quick to counter attack and created chances of their own the best falling to Ceri Roberts but his final effort was just wide. Terry Hughes who had come as substitute for Keiron Ellis stretched the home defence by playing wide left though he wasn't fully fit after suffering a virus in midweek. Still it was he that made the points safe with 4 minutes left when he latched onto a crossfield pass from Euron Roberts and coolly beat Kenny Hughes. What is good about this Amateurs side is the goals come from so many playersthey will be hoping to add to the 44 they have already scored when at they will be home this SaturdayBangor University.
