Man Of the Match = Aled Owen
This was a hard fought deserved win for the Quarrymen as they kept their unbeaten start to the season intact at a wind swept Gaerwen on Saturday inTeejac Gwynedd League encounter.many teams will get a result at the Anglesey club who were 3rd in the league at the start of the match and at the end find themselves 12 points behind the leaders. Every successful team has of course to have a good defence and the Amateurs certainly have that and on how many occassions this column has praised the Quarrymen's defence and one has to do it once again. The home side tried hard in an evenly matched first period but hardly tested Geraint Hughes in thegoal such was the stranglehold Euron Roberts, Neil Reynolds andOwen had over the home forwards. In that first period the visitorshad only a few clear cut chances the best falling to Dafydd Reynolds after some good work by Geraint Owen butfinal effort was wide of the target. Then John O'Donovan went close inbest of the half for the Amateurs when they played the ball out of their defence to create the chance which the Irishman just failed to score with.time onepraise the Amateurs players composure under some heated challenges to say the least for not retaliating when on the end of some X rated tackles. The interval came with the scoresheet blank and maybe at that point the away fans would have taken the point but in the second half their side's dominance began to show and they were playing the best football whilst the home side were relying on long high hopeful balls into the Amateurs half which were easily dealt with by the visitors defence. Then in a space of two minutes around the hour mark the visitors won the match.Geraint Owen was brought downthe penalty areaDafydd Reynolds coolly converted the resutling spot kick as the home keeper Gethin Robyns wrongly. Within a minute striker Ceri Roberts out on the right sent in a cross cumwhich Robyns completely misjudged and the ball ended in the net for 2-0. that it was plain sailing for the visitors who hadone realas James Saxon went closewas their dominance. Gwyn Owen in the heart of the home defence had a sterling match and thwarted Blaenau on several occassions with timely tackles and interventions. But neither he nor any of his teamates could do nothing when the visitors added the 3rd on 80 minutes as the impressive Aled Owenhis defensive duties to take the ball well into the Gaerwen half from which he played a neat one two with Gareth Roberts from which the former was to strike the ball low past Robyns. There was still time for Ceri Roberts to blast the ball over the bar after some neat play by the visitors but by that time the three points on offer were secured. It was aall round performance by the Amateurs and the team spirit among the squad is refreshing to see none more than when Aled scored his first goal of the season as the whole team clapped and congratulated him. Long may it last. This Saturday Gaerwen are the opposition, at Cae Clyd in an Eryri Shield match kick off at 1.30pm.
