Man Of the Match = Aled Owen

The Quarrymen kept their unbeaten start and more importantly stay top ofTeejac Gwynedd League after this deserved draw at Bodedern. Last season the Anglesey side completed the double over the Amateurs and they came back twice to grab a point in an enjoyable match which could have gone either way late on. The visitors thought theyhave had a penalty when Terry Hughes was hacked down from behind as he went through on goal14 minutes left on the clock but the referee Derek Owen somehow only gave them a corner kick. It was the visitors who created the best chance early on but Keiron Ellis with only the home keeper to beat saw his shot saved by Roberts feet. the Amateurs's John O'Donovan it was a brief ten minute role and in that time he coolly gave the visitors the lead on 7 minutes and then three minutes later an ankle ligament injury saw him limp off the field to take no further action in proceedings and more worrying for the Amateurs it is a recurrance of the injury which has meant long spells out of the game in the past. Lets hope it wont be that long this time as the young Irishmana key role in the Amateurs midfield and after he left the home side came more into this match. On 18 minutes the home side were level after some fine work down the right by their captain Andrew Jones who crossed the ball to the far post and there was Andrew Bailey to head in the equaliser. Play was quite even after that with the home side using the long high ball which rarely troubled the Amateurs defence with the visitors trying to play football but were quilty of being caught in possession on far too many occasions. When on 37 minutes they passed the ball quicker it opened the home defence and Ceri Roberts neatly lobbed the former Glantraeth keeper Gareth Roberts to put the visitors ahead a lead which they held till the interval.
Bodedern opened the second half in a determined effort but still they were limited to a few clear cut chances and they made a few changes to try and bolster their attack which lacked any cutting thrust and when the experienced lanky Gareth Wyn Roberts came on he did give the Amateurs defence more to think about and he had a part in his side's econd equaliser just after the hour mark as he set up Gary Bolton whose cross goal shot was bundled into the net at the far post by Dewi Hughes. Gareth Roberts went close for the visitors before that penalty claim was refused. There was still time for Roberts to tip a Gary Hughes header over the bar and then the Amateurs blocked a free kicksome 12 yards out and it ended 2-2. For the visitors they know that other teams will come away from Bodedern with nothing for they had won their last 4 matches after an indifferent start to their campaign. This Saturday both the Amateurs sides have no matches and are at Llanfiarfechan on October 11th,The next time the Amateurs will be at home will be in November and their last game at Cae Clyd was on August Bank Holiday Monday. By that time they will have played a staggering 8 away matches.
