Man Of the Match =

Those fans who turned up for this John Smith Gwynedd League Cup tie at Cae Clyd on Saturday were treated to a feast of goals between the enemies" as the home side shaded it in a game that saw many mistakes andthe home side a much more worrying event asthe final minutes defender Neil Reynolds was sent off for foolishingly kicking theaway after Port were given a free kickearneda second yellow card. It didn't matter in this match but as the Amateurs havetough encounters on Anglesey to miss the commanding defender could prove costly in the league.Amateurs management has to get to grips with some of the home team's illdiscipline before it really jeopardise's the Quarrymen's fine start to thethis match it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 5 minutes when a Steven Jones free kick out on the right sailed over everyone including the Amateurs stand in keeper Stephen Jones and into the net on 5 minutes. That lead was shortlived as the home side equalised two minutes later when Euron Roberts found Gareth Roberts in space in the area and he did the rest giving Arron Threadgill in the Port goal no chance.were dangerous on the break but their defence was shaky at times and as the home side pressed forward one felt that they would score but it took 26 minutes for them to do so. It came about as Geraint Owen burst through only to see his rasping shot crash against the bar but Ceri Roberts was on hand to put the rebound into the net. Minutes before Port's Tom Llewelyn Owen was taken to hospital with an ankle injuryhe went down after a fair tackle. On 34 minutes the home side went further ahead and it was the same combination that saw Gareth Roberts latching onto an Euron Roberts pass to score. However some sloppy defensive play by the home side allowed Port back into the match three minutes later as Iestyn Woolway scored. Euron Roberts's runs down the right flank were causing all sorts of problems for the visitors and from one such run he crossed the ball to the far post where Terry Hughes met it on the volley only to see his effort crash against a post and was cleared with the keeper a mere spectator. It was the visitors that opened the second period on top and they equalised in 55 minutes when David Rylance headed in at the far post. For a few minutes after that they had the home side rattled but the Quarrymen soon got back under control with Gareth Roberts dictating things in midfield and it was he that nearly set up a chance for Terry Hughes who failed by inches to react tolow cross.Stiil it looked just a matter of time before the home side would score but when they did it was a present from the Port keeper who failed to hold onto a Terry Hughes shot and the nippy Ceri Roberts pounced and the home side were ahead on 64 minutes. When the unlucky Mark Bridge headed an Euron Roberts cross into his own net 8 minutes later the result was never in doubt and how the referee failed to give the home side a penalty when Geraint Owen was blatantly brought down in the area baffled all concerned. Then what had been a good day for the home side was soured somewhat by Reynolds's dismissal. This Saturday the Amateurs aare away to Gaerwen in the Teejac Gwynedd League kick off at 2pm. The Amateurs have been drawn away at Penmaenmawr Pheonix in the next round of the Intermediate Cup, the tie to be played on December 6th, whilst Porthmadog will be home to Greenfield.
