BLAENAU AMATEURS 3 LLANGEFNI RES 2.
This was the top match in Saturday's Teejac Gwynedd League encounters as the leaders entertained the club who were second at the start of play and the Anglesey side must feel a bit aggrieved that they went home with nothing to show for their efforts. For the home side it was another three points towards their goal of being the champions but still there is a long way to go. With so many fixtures to fullfill the Quarrymen are being hit with injuries in each match. Goalkeeper Geraint Hughes is out for the season with a fractured leg and defender Aled Owen was helped off the field half way through the first half with a knee injury. Euron Roberts too suffered a knock but carried on till the end. Ceri Roberts was also absent through injury and to make matters worse the home side went into the break losing 2-0. The visitors had shown in that first half more desire to win closing players down and releasing first time passes that for once the home side had problems with. When Aled Owen went off Dafydd Reynolds moved back into defence but there was hardly a worthwhile shot on either goal until the 40 minute. Dafydd Reynolds was disposesed some 30 yards out and Tom Roberts took full advantge to beat Peter Jones in the home goal and three minutes later he was beaten again as Gerallt Jones coolly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper. The visitors had a glorious chance of making it 3-0 when from a corner kick Daron Jones unmarked 6 yards out headed the ball over the bar. For the first time this season the home side started the second period two goals behind and an early reply was essential and they got just that after 49 minutes when their man of the match midfielder Geraint Owen with probably the home side best move till then slotting the ball home. Peter Jones kept the home side in the game when he blocked a Gavin Sharpe effort with his legs whilst at the other end Terry Hughes's free kick was inches over the bar. Then Keiron Ellis had a chance to equalise when through on goal but the massive figure of Henry Jones in the goal smothered his effort. The home side's play was slowly gathering momentum and on 69 minutes they were level and this time it was skipper and another midfield player Gary Hughes that beat Jones with a low shot into the corner of the net. The vitors nearly went ahead soon after but Peter jones made a fine diving save to tip Tom Roberts's effort away for a corner kick. With a draw looking more and more a possibility up popped Geraint Owen for the winner on 86 minutes after some determined play by John O'Donovan which created the chance. Still the home fans had to endure over 6 minutes of extra time before they and the players could celebrate the win. So it is to Holyhead Hotspurs on Saturday and with a few key players missing it is going to be a tricky away fixture for the league leaders.
