League Match
Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs 2 v 3 Llanfairfechan Town
John O’Donovan 15
Karl Kavanagh 36
BLAENAUAMATEURS 2 LLANFAIRFECHAN 3.
Having played 27 matches the Amateurs caused the shock of the day if not of the
season by losing for only the second time to the struggling side Llanfairfechan
on Saturday.Take nothing away for the visitors took their chances whilst the
home side squandered many of theirs. With Keiron Ellis adding to the growing
list of absent players the home side had to reshuffle the team and they never
really got going as the visitors harried and pressurised them throughout.
However twice the home side led but full marks to the visitors for sticking at
it and coming through to win at the end. The home side took the lead on 12
minutes when Gareth Roberts created the chance for John O'Donovan to score.
The lead only lasted for three minutes as Gareth Williams equalised with an 18
yard drive from the edge of the penalty area and the following minute Gavin
Lewis in the home goal made a fine save to deny Gareth Williams a quick double.
Chances came as the home side
pressed and they were guilty of over elaobarting things when adirect
approach might have been more benfical. Llion Hughes in the visitors goal made a
point blank save toKarl Kavanangh from scoriing but he could do nothing
to prevent the home side from regaining the lead38 minutes when he parried
away a John O'Donovan's drive and Karl Kavanagh was there to side foot
the ball into the net. Again the home side failed to consolidate their lead as
on 42 minutes Curtis Murray equalised with a fine effort. There was still time
before the break for the visitors to have the ball in the net but the effort was
ruled out for offside.
The second half started with John O'Donovan bring out another fine save
from Hughes as play ebbed from one end to another and the home side saw Geraint
Owen's effort cleared off the line and Terry Hughes also hit the post. Thats
howthey came to scoring and Gavin Lewis did well to with a one one
situation as the visitors counter attacked. Gary Hughes then had an effort saved
by Llion Hughes before the visitors took the lead for the first time on 75
minutes when Ben Pugh scored giving Gavin Lewis no chance. It was then that the
visitors had to defend for their lives and they did so admirably whilst at the
other end Gavin Lewis saved well from Luke Fountain. The home side came close to
salvaging a point late on but Llion Hughes not for the first time came to his
side's rescue by saving well from John O'Donovan. No wonder the keeper
was named the man of the match. Still it was reminder for the home side that
there aren't any easy matches and they
have to focus now on Saturday's North Wakes Intermediate Cup semi final
against Greenfield which is to be played on Conwy United's ground.
