Those hardy souls who were at Cae Clyd on Saturday didn't get their monies worth for a heavymade it very impossible to see the whole pitch from the sidelines but the referee was happy for the gamego on as he could see goals from the half way. For the rest of us one had to ask someone at the other end of the pitch as to what had happened such was the gloomy state of affairs. Nothing gloomy in the result which sees the home side progress to the next round of the Eryri Shield but they were made to work hard for thisIn fairness Garwen deserved the extra time that was looming before the home side killed them offtwo late goals. The Amateurs started without Gareth Roberts, and both rested whilst the visitors were also without some of their usual players and only hadsubstitute available The home side went close early on with an effort which struck the bar before they were forced into making a change after 15 minutes when goalkeeper Geraint Hughes was injured going for a 50/50resulted in what looked like a nasty legwhich meant he was taken to hospital. Dafydd Reynolds took over the keeper's jersey with Keiron Ellis coming off the bench. Within minutes with the home defence fully stretched Keiron Lewis put the visitors in front and for the second consecutive Saturday the home sideto play catch up and on 29 minutes Ceri Roberts brought them level with a low shot which gave the Gaerwen keeper Gethin Robyns no chance of stopping.was pretty even after that with the visitors always dangerous on the break whilst the Amateurs midfield didn't or weren't allowed to dictate matters as they have been doing in other matches this season. At the break the scores were level and with the very first attack of the second half the visitors had a great chance to regain the lead when Sion Campbell was clean through on goal but his final effort was wide of the target. At the other end the home side had the ball in the netit was rightly ruled out for offside. There were some hefty tackles going in by both sides and both Keiron Lewis and his namesake Keiron Ellis saw yellowCampbell squanderedanother chancethe visitors threatened the home goal. Just after the hour Ceri Roberts came off for Blaenau being replaced by Gareth Roberts the home side went ahead on 70 minutes when Gary Hughes converted a John O'Donovan free kick. The home side threatened to run away with the match but Robyns had other ideas saving well on several occassions. Then Gaerwen equalised on 76 minutes when after a corner kick the ball wasn't cleared properly by the home defence and Aled Hughes Hughes found the back of the net with a fierce low drive. With extra time looming Robyns for once was caught out on 85 minutes whenNeil Reynolds's cross shot eluded his outstretched arms and into the net. Then with virtually the last kick of the match probably the best move of the match by the home side saw Geraint Owen split the visitors defence and there was John O'Donovan to score. It is back to Teejac League action this Saturday with the Amateurs entertaingRes who are presently second to the Amateurs in the table, the match to kick off at 2pm.
