BLAENAUAMATEURS 7BODEDERN 0.
This was billed by many as theGwynedd League's match of the day and a potential 6 pointerthe leaders Blaenau Amateurs took on their Anglesey opponents who were currently in 3rd position at start of play.the gulf between the two sides was there for all to see as the Quarrymen turned on one of the best performances seen at Cae Clyd for many a season. The first half display at Gaerwen the previous week was something special but this was simply an awesome display from the first whistle to the last and the visitors were lucky not to have been beaten by a bigger score such was the Amateurs domination of the match. Both sides fielded their strongest teams as the home side started the game with the wind at their backs. Having scored 5 in each of their last 2matches the home side were quickly on the attack with some neat interpassing movements which had the visitors at full stretch but it took them some 20 minutes to open the scoring. It came as a Terry Hughes 20 yard free kick the bar and there was Ceri Roberts to follow up and score.home side created other chances but it took them 38 minutes to double their score when some fine skills by John O'Donovan left two Bodedern players for dead before he placed a fine through ball to Keiron Ellis and he made no mistake. The visitors too had their chances the best falling Gary Boulton whothrough on the home goal with just the home keeper Geraint Hughes to beat but the keeper made an excellent point blank save and that maybe was the turning point of the match. For within 2 minutesjust before the break one witnesed the goal of the match as Geraint Owen unleashed a 30 yard thunderbolt which gaveO.J.Roberts in the visitors goal no chance of saving. The standard of play by the home side didn't relent after the breakthe Bodedern players simply chasing shadows at time so much was the home side's control of the match. Any chance the visitors had of salavaging something from the match was dashed on the hour when John O'Donovan scored with a fine curling 16 yard shot. Six minutes later Keiron Ellis made it 5-0 and it by now wasmatter of how many goals the home side would score. And score they did on 68 minutes with a goal from Ceri Roberts by which time the home side had taken off their skipper Gary Hughes and Neil Reynolds to be replaced by Dafydd Reynolds and Steven Jones. Still the home side display never wavered as another substitute Karl Kavanagh on for Gareth Roberts went close before John O'Donovan made it 7-0 following a good move involving Terry Hughes and Keiron Ellis. The Bodedern supporters must have wished they had stayed at home as they saw their side not only suffer their biggest defeat for some time but they were simply outclassed by the Amateurs in all aspects of the match.
