Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs 2 v 0 Bethel
Rhys Jones 15
Gareth Roberts 31

BLAENAU AMATEURS 2 BETHEL 0.
For the successive Saturday the Amateurs were hosts to Bethel in a cup tie and like last week the result was a win for the home side as they reached the semi final stage of the Eryri Shield where they will entertain Llangefni Res at Cae Clyd that tie scheduled to be played this Saturday. Like the previous encounter the home side deserved the win and should have scored more than their two first half goals, the first of which coming on 15 minutes when Rhys Jones finished off a good move by the home side and his strike gave Iolo Roberts in the Bethel goal no chance of saving. Rhys has now scored in the last three matches for the Amateurs. This goal came after the visitors Irfon Hughes headed a corner kick against the bar early on and who knows what the result might have been if that effort was inches lower. Still Blaenau tried to play constructive football whist the visitors tactics was long balls upfield which the home defence had little problem in dealing with. A fine move on 31 minutes when Gary Hughes passed the ball out to the left for Terry Hughes to cross the ball onto the head of Gareth Roberts and he made no mistake and the home side had that cushion of 2-0 which at that time was a fair reflection of the match. Just before the break Bethel's Huw Owens with a fine solo run weaved his way into the home penalty area but his final shot struck the bar and was cleared. On the very first attack of the second period Keiron Ellis was through on the Bethel goal but he dragged his effort wide of the mark. Iolo Roberts too was having a fine match in the Bethel goal making some smart saves as the home threatened but as the match wore on chances became few and far between at both ends. It was good to see Ceri Roberts having an outing however short in the second half after his leg injury but still the brothers Aled and Geraint Owen and John O'Donovan were sidelined due to injury. Near the end Karl Kavanagh brought out another fine save from Roberts whilst at the other end Gavin Lewis in the home goal had little to do but when called upon he did everything right as the home side easily made into the last 4 of the event.
