Blaenau v Amlwch 27.2.10

Match Reports 09/10 > February 2010

BLAENAU AMATEURS 5 AMLWCH TOWN 1.
The Amateurs duly completed their Design2Print League double over their Anglesey rivals but they were flattered by this scoreline in a match that was spoiled especially in the first half by an over zealous referee who flashed cards around at any contact and in the end both sides had a player sent off. A little more common sense by the official and the match might have been a better spectacle. At half time talk on the sidelines was about the ref and not about the match itself which surely should not have been the case. Thankfully he showed a bit more tolereance in the second period but in the final quarter he showed Amlwch's Dylan Jones a red card and he joined the Amateurs's Keiron Ellis who went for an early bath minutes before the break. Maybe both players deserved what they got but some of the other yellow cards given to a host of players were laughable to say the least. Back to the game itself the home side had defender Neil Reynolds back after months on the sidelines due to ankle injury and he coped well after such a long absence. The first real chance of the match went to Amlwch's Mark Jones but his final effort was just too high. At the other end the home side had a goal scoring chance when Ceri Roberts was clear but couldn't beat Kenny Jones in the visitors goal. The deadlock was broken after 21 minutes as Carwyn Jones made a fine run down the left for the home side before passing the ball to John O'Donovan to open the scoring. Karl Kavanagh had two chances to increase their lead but was thwarted by Kenny Jones in the first attempt and then his header went inches wide of the post. The visitors were playing well without really troubling Geraint Hughes in the home goal and on 33 minutes John O'Donovan doubled the home side's advantage finishing the move of the match with a neat finish. Then came the first dismissal and on half time Amlwch's best player Lloyd Williams gave them hope with a fine finish and for the first 15 minutes of the second period they dominated play without creating any real clear cut chances and they were made to pay as Gareth Roberts netted a quickfire double on 64 and 69 minutes and the match was all over. Then Dylan Jones left for an early bath and the home side brought on Steff Roberts their former player/manager who has signed back to his home town club from Barmouth for the last 10 minutes or so. In that time he managed to get booked and also saw his strong shot saved by Kenny Jones who couldn't hold onto the ball and skipper Geraint Owen completed the nap hand on 89 minutes with a simple tap in. This Saturday they have a tough away match at Conwy United who like the Quarrymen are in the league's top 9 clubs so it should be a tasty affair.
