AMLWCH 0 BLAENAU AMATEURS 3.
03.10.09
After two successive wins at Amlwch how the Amatuers must wish that all their Welsh Alliance League matches were so easy as the Quarrymen got the three league points on offer without ever being under any sustained pressure. The scoreline could have easily tallied with the 5-0 cup win the previous week and even surpass that total such was the chances the visitors created . After the summer like weather of the previous Saturday this time the players encountered a stiff breeze which favoured the home side in the first half. The visitors had Steve Jones missing in defence to add to the problems they had as Neil Reynolds was again unfit. Keiron Ellis was back after missing the last match and the game really followed the pattern of that earlier cup tie as the visitors led 1-0 at the break with a goal from Gareth Roberts though how the home side were still in it at the interval beggars belief as Gareth Roberts and Tom Woollway went agonisingly close and then towards the end of that half both Ceri Roberts and Gareth Roberts saw their efforts striking the crossbar with home keeper Luke Williams beaten. The home side came more into the match after the break but never really threatened Geraint Hughes in the Amateurs goal and when the visitors tried to play football some of the home challenges merited more than a yellow card at times. The visitors went two up on 66 minutes when Gareth Roberts set up Ceri Roberts to score after Keiron Ellis had two glorious chances to score but was denied by the keeper and his other effort was off target. Ben Jones the Amlwch captain tried in vain to rally his troops who had a few half chances that maybe another stronger team would have made more of. Two minutes from time the scoring was completed when Keiron Ellis created the opening for Ceri Roberts to score. The Amateurs have no match this Saturday and their next Welsh Alliance match will be home to Halkyn on October 17th.
Terry Hughes was the Amateurs Reserves hero as he scored twice to inflict the first Caernarfon and District League defeat on leader Mynydd Llandegai by 2-1 at Cae Clyd.It was the Reserves first win of the season.
